When: Monday, January 8, 2024

Where: NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas

The stage is set for what should be an excellent NCAA football title game showdown between two undefeated heavyweight squads in Michigan and Washington. The Wolverines enter this contest following a thrilling 27-20 over Alabama in the CFP semifinals and have a shot at an undefeated season after running through the Big Ten this season. Meanwhile, the Huskies were able to outlast Texas, 37-31, in a game that saw Washington dazzle the crowd with some high-flying offense. Indeed both contests saw some solid numbers get put up, but will this be the case in the title game? Both teams feature stellar quarterbacks in J.J. McCarthy (Michigan) and Michael Penix (Washington) along with numerous playmakers on the offensive side of the football so there is reason to believe this could be a high-scoring affair.

In this article, SBS will be going over various prop bets related to the 2024 CFP National Championship, predictions, and even more notes about college football betting.

Prop bet number one: Washington vs. Michigan Over/Under 55.5 total points

In the CFP Semifinals, the four squads combined for some sensational action. Washington and Texas lit up the scoreboard for a combined 68 points. In the first half, the teams dueled to a 21-21 stalemate, with the Huskies breaking open the game with a 10-point third quarter. Penix threw for 430 yards against the Longhorns along with two passing scores. His main target during the Sugar Bowl was wide receiver Rome Odunze who accrued 125 receiving yards on six receptions. The Huskies would go on to secure the win with a 37-31 victory, leading by as much as 13 during the contest and being able to stave off a heated Texas rally in the fourth quarter.

In the Rose Bowl, Michigan dueled with Alabama to a 27-20 victory in Pasadena in front of an electric crowd. Wolverines running back Blake Corum was his usual productive self with 83 rushing yards and one score. The senior halfback has scored 25 times this year on the ground and is one of the most productive players in the nation when it comes to scoring the football. After stopping the Tide in overtime, the Wolverines were able to get their stars to play well enough together to score 14 unanswered points against the vaunted Alabama defense. Wide receiver Roman Wilson (four catches, 73 yards) was able to notch the tying score in the fourth quarter with under four minutes left.

Prediction: Both squads have enough offensive firepower to make this a high-scoring affair, take the combined over in points here.

Prop bet number two: Michigan Over/Under 30.5 team points

During the court of the 2023 season, Michigan was able to score more than 30.5 points nine times during the year. The Wolverines averaged 36 points per game (ppg) during the 2023 campaign which was good for 15th in the nation. While they fell short of that number against the Tide, Alabama is historically known as one of the best defenses in all of college football. Nonetheless, the Wolverines were able to put up 27 points in overtime against the Tide. While they were not able to accrue more than 31 points against ranked foes this year (Iowa, Ohio State, Penn State), Michigan was still able to score with consistency. Moreover, those squads all had better defenses than Washington who gave up an average of

Prediction: The Wolverines are going to have their hands full with the Washington offense, but the Huskies defense does have some holes in it. Pick the Wolverines to score more in this title tilt.

Prop bet number three: Washington Over/Under 25.5 team points

The final prop bet selection for the 2024 CFP title game, the Huskies will have to put up some big points to keep pace with the undefeated Wolverines. Regardless, Washington did lead the country in passing yards this season with 350 per game to couple with an offense that averaged 37.6 ppg (11th in the country). Including last week’s win over Texas, the Huskies have scored more than 25 points in a game 11 times during the 2023 campaign. Of course, the offense will run through Penix (4,648 passing yards) and his duo of sensational wideouts (Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk). Washington, however, will have to deal with one of the top pass defenses in the country in Michigan’s backfield.

Prediction: This should be an excellent battle between the Washington passing attack and the Michigan defensive backs, with the Huskies getting the better of them.
