After the dust has settled on this, next up for City is a trip to Anfield to play current Premier League leaders Liverpool. If City loses to Jurgen Klopp’s team, the title will surely be over for this year.

Man City vs. Man Utd: Latest Form
Manchester City sits second in the Premier League table with 59 points from 26 matches. They are just one point behind leaders Liverpool and one ahead of third-placed Arsenal.
Pep’s team has been unbeaten in the Premier League since December 6th, when they lost 1-0 away to Aston Villa. Since that loss, the Light Blues have won nine and drawn two.
More recently, they had a six-game winning streak ended by a 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea on February 17th. Since then, they have defeated Brentford and Bournemouth 1-0.
But despite being 11 games unbeaten in the Premier League, they have struggled in their last three matches. The wins over Brentford and Bournemouth were both nervy. And these wins came after they chucked away two points against Chelsea.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table. The Red Devils have 44 points from 26 matches. Erik ten Hag’s team has been up and down all season. They would pull off a decent result one week, and follow it up with a shocker the next.
But they seemed to have turned a corner in recent weeks. Following a 2-2 home draw with Spurs, United went on a four-match winning run. Finally, they had found some consistency.
A home match against Fulham last Saturday looked a formality. So United go and lose 2-1.
The good run of form coincided with Rasmus Højlund finally finding some form. The striker scored six times in five matches ahead of the Fulham match. He then picked up a muscle injury in the build-up to the match against the London club, which the club thinks will keep him out for two to three weeks.
Even without the Dane, United would have expected to beat Fulham. So, the loss is yet another setback for the Red Devils.
Man City vs. Man Utd: Our Pick
Three of United’s four recent wins were on the road. Victories came against Wolves (4-3), Aston Villa (2-1), and Luton (2-1). United would normally expect to beat Wolves and Luton, but the Villa result goes down as an excellent win.
Take the Villa result out of the equation, and their run is nothing special. But with their best form coming on the road, can United go to the Etihad with some hope?
Right on the tail of this match, Manchester City will play the 2nd leg of their Champions League tie against Copenhagen. The Blues are in control after winning the 1st leg 3-1. But will they already have one eye on next Sunday’s showdown with Liverpool?
United can be optimistic that all this suggests an upset is possible. But from Manchester City’s perspective, they need to win this match. Liverpool play Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The Reds will most likely have a four-point lead over City by the time they line up to play United. City simply can’t afford to drop points against their Manchester rivals.
