The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets clash at Truist Park in the third of their four-match mini-series on Wednesday night. Just a few days into the new MLB season, this match seems hugely significant at the top of the National League East. The series is set perfectly at one win apiece going into the third of the four scheduled matches.
The Mets won the opening match 8-7, holding off a late comeback from Atlanta to record their fourth win of the season. Then on Tuesday night, the Braves bounced back with a close 6-5 victory. But this time, it was the Braves who had to withstand the fightback, as they almost blew the 6-0 lead they held as the match entered the 8th innings.
The win for Brian Snitker’s team sees them consolidating their lead at the top of the NL East after Monday night’s setback.
Betting to win the NL East
Yes, the bookmakers already think the NL East is a done deal. After a strong start to the 2024 season, Atlanta are now -450 to win the division.
If the Mets win the remaining two matches of the current mini-series, they will bring Atlanta back to the pack. But given Atlanta’s undoubted quality, it would still only be a matter of time before they pull clear.
The Philadelphia Phillies are slated to be Atlanta’s closest rivals. They are +275 to upset the odds and turn the Braves over, with the Mets at +1800. Lose again tonight, and the Mets could well drift further in the betting.
Betting to win the 2024 MLB World Series
Despite suffering a shock mini-series defeat to the Cubs last weekend, the LA Dodgers still lead the betting to win the 2024 World Series. The big-spending franchise is top of the pile at +325, a slight drift from their opening position of +300.
The second favorite with the best MLB World Series betting sites is the Atlanta Braves at +425. The Braves started the season at +500 and are already closing the gap on the Dodgers.
Making up the top three is the Houston Astros. After starting the season slated at +700, the Astros are now out to +850, just ahead of the New York Yankees, who are +950.
There’s not much change behind the leading four franchises, with the Baltimore Orioles at +1100 and the Texas Rangers at +1400 to win the World Series back-to-back.
Braves vs. Mets Match Betting
In the betting to win the third match of the mini-series, the Braves are favorites with the best MLB betting sites.
On the money line, Atlanta is -163. The New York Mets are at +149. Ahead of the second match of the series, Atlanta was -189, and New York was +173. The closeness of the two games has influenced the moneyline odds.
Moving onto the handicap spread, with the 1.5-point advantage, the Mets are -135. The Braves are +115 to win and cover the spread. The total runs scored market is -110 for over and under 9.5.

Braves vs. Mets Latest Form
The season is still young, but both franchises have played enough matches for form to count. Atlanta sits top of the NL East with a 7-3 record. The Mets are fourth with a disappointing 4-7 record. Significantly, the Mets are 1-5 at home and 3-2 on the road.
Atlanta’s home-field record is 4-1. There is little wrong with that.
In this mini-series, the score is 1-1. Both matches have been decided by just one run, and both have seen the Mets fight back from large-looking deficits. In match 1, New York was 4-0 down after the 3rd, and in the second game, they were 6-0 down after the 7th.
Our Braves vs. Mets Picks and Predictions
As we’ve just mentioned, the Braves have gone into big leads in both matches in this series. New York has come back well in both, showing that they have plenty of fight, despite their 4-7 record in 2024.
We do have to ask how often can New York keep coming back against a team as good as the Braves. They have done it twice now. But eventually, the Braves are going to put them to bed.
