In what should be an interesting and explosive showcase, MMA stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal have scrapped their MMA rematch and have instead opted for a boxing showdown. Per a report from ESPN, Diaz and Masvidal will fight again on June 1st at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif. in a boxing bout. As many are aware, the two fought in MMA in the UFC 244 main event on Nov. 2, 2019, at Madison Square Garden for the symbolic “BMF” championship. The latter won that fight via TKO. With this new matchup now on the horizon, BetOnline has released the early betting markets on the upcoming boxing contest per the main website and also another outlet. BetOnline posted the odds earlier this week and Masvidal a “massive favorite” at -375 for this matchup.

Boxing bout features two talented & tough UFC legends
As noted in one article, this matchup is certainly interesting given the respective points in the career of each fighter which the following commentary alludes to. This fight “highly-anticipated is debatable” between a couple of UFC legends (“well past their prime”) will take place in June as Diaz and Masvidal square off in the boxing ring. The matchup is scheduled for 10 rounds at 175 pounds.
Moreover, as alluded to above, Masvidal opened at BetOnline as the big favorite at -375 (4/15), while Diaz’s odds look like +275 or 11/4. Of course, this could certainly change as betting markets are subject to do so and will be updated in real-time over at BetOnline if that is the case. According to another report, this event, distributed by Fanmio, will be dubbed “Last Man Standing.” Moreover, a multi-city promotional tour is being planned.
Both athletes have been involved in huge fights before
Per the report from ESPN, Diaz and Masvidal, two of the UFC’s biggest stars of this era, have since departed the promotion – Diaz as a free agent and Masvidal via retirement. The UFC approved Masvidal to take this fight as he is still under contract. Moreover, the two have been involved in three of the top 10 UFC pay-per-view events of all time. Diaz made his pro boxing debut last August in a decision loss to Youtuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul. He also went into that bout with an arm injury.
Conversely, this will be Masvidal’s return to competition after retiring in April 2023 following a UFC loss to Gilbert Burns. As noted above, the two have matched up before. Masvial beat Diaz in the fourth round at UFC 244 when the ringside physician halted the bout because of a Diaz cut. Of course, that is the impetus for the rematch. There is unfinished business – Masvidal wants to remove all doubt while Diaz is out for revenge.
“Nate’s a dead man walking,” Masvidal said in retirement. “I can’t wait to prove that last time there was no fluke. He got saved by the referee. Now we are boxing, which he says is his forte, but he’s got no shot at beating me. I am not going to give him an inch in that ring to even breathe. If he thought our MMA match was bad, this is going to be much worse…All of that talk ends June 1st…When June 1st comes I’ll put all unanswered questions to rest, live for the world to see.”
Per the same article, Fanmio has distributed big combat sports events before, including Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul in 2021. Of course, this is a great asset for BetOnline customers as they should be able to watch this bout from bell to bell and see the action in real time.
