The 2024 MotoGP season is off and running and the top racers from the early prediction charts are certainly making their case each time they get on the track. Last week, the riders clashed at the Portuguese motorcycle Grand Prix with Jorge Martin emerging victorious. After starting in the third position, the Spanish racer was able to score the victory. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia, who won the first race of the season, was involved in a crash last week and is looking for a rebound outing this week. The other racers to keep an eye on are the usual suspects of Enea Bastianini and Marc Marquez who are both around the top six of the MotoGP World Championship standings.

In this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from each of these top racers along with a predicted race winner, and even more notes and information about MotoGP betting.

First Contender Spotlight: Jorge Martin (+162)

The current points leader in the MotoGP Championship standings, Martin is coming off a great win in Portugal the other week after a fantastic showing the other week in Qatar for third place. Last year, he was unable to finish the race at the American Grand Prix but would go on to finish in second place in the MotoGP World Championship standings. Moreover, last year he notched four different race victories, including four top-ten finishes in the final five faces of the season. Of course, he also has been the most consistent finisher to date with a third-place and first-place finish in the first two races of the season. He would be of course wise to keep this pace up as his chief rivals would be gaining on him if he were to give up ground. With no retirements to date though, he has a ton of fantastic momentum.

Second Racer Spotlight: Francesco Bagnaia (+180)

One of the best racers on the planet, the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP World Riders’ Champion is a fantastic competitor and won the opening race of this season, picking up where he left off last year. While he was involved in a disappointing crash last weekend in Portugal, he still is on track to rebound this week at the Circuit of the Americas. In the past, he has had some up-and-down performances at this Grand Prix – retiring last year, before posting a fifth place (2022) and a third-place showing in 2021. In the last couple of years, he has been fantastic, winning a total of 14 races combined between 2022 and 2023. This includes winning a remarkable four races in a row back in 2022.

Marquez is one of the most accomplished racers of all time with 59 total MotoGP World Championship victories and six different world championships, the last coming in 2019. This year, he has started on an uneven pace with one top-five finish in Qatar (fourth), but a 16th-place showing last week in Portugal. In the past though, he has been wildly successful at this event with seven overall victories there. This includes a fantastic six wins in a row at the event from 2013 to 2018. Could he be getting back to his winning ways? He certainly has the pedigree to do so.

Last Athlete Spotlight: Enea Bastianini (+600)

The winner of the pole position and fastest lap at the Portuguese Grand Prix, the Italian driver notched some fantastic performances last week. During that race, he scored a pole position time of 1:37.706 along with finishing in second place on the podium. Bastianini is a great racer for the Ducati team and has been solidly consistent this year with a second-place finish in Portugal and a fifth-place performance in Qatar. Known as “La Bestia,” the Italian driver is a great racer and also the 2020 Moto2 World Champion. He is also off to a much better start than last year, which was hampered due to various ailments for Bastianini. However, he has had success at this event before, winning the race in 2022 which was also part of the four overall races he won that season.

Prediction: In what should be a great showcase, take the World Champion Bagnaia to rebound in Texas. While he of course had a bad spell of luck last week, this is a great opportunity for him to score a victory in America.
